Top class Cape design duo to join invited designer line up

Durban – The Cape design duo Kluk CGDT who have been included in the exclusive line up of top class designers that has just been announced for this years’ Vodacom Durban July Invited Designer Showcase will no doubt leave fashion fundies in awe as they make their mark at Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event on 31 July.

The eight Vodacom Durban July Invited Designer Showcase invitees are: Klûk CGDT from Cape Town, David Tlale, RjKay Creations and Abigail Betz from Gauteng, Leigh Schubert, Mike Narainsamy, Lindiwe Kuzwayo and Francois Vedemme from Durban.

Making a return appearance is Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit of the label Klûk CGDT who have designed for a host of celebrities including Charlize Theron and Beyonce Knowles to name a few. Malcolm himself was mentored by Jimmy Choo and American Vogue’s Hamish Bowles.

“We love the Vodacom Durban July. As a Durban boy, I always remember this event as something special. It also seems to become an important networking day for many of our corporate and professional customers as well as the amusement of the over the top costumes and the elegance of the real fashion people,” said Kulk.

Back by popular demand is David Tlale who made his first appearance in the popular showcase in 2009. “It's a great fashion event to be involved in where we see the country celebrating fashion from different parts of South Africa,” said Tlale.

As a fashion trendsetter, Tlale has in the past few years developed his own brand empire that has exceeded all expectations and has just returned from showing at New York Fashion Week, highlighting the meteoric growth of his brand on an international scale.

Leigh Schubert, who has just returned from showcasing at the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, is known for her crowd pleasing designs which we eagerly anticipate in her collection.

“I think it’s an event that everyone in Durban looks forward to, I am always honoured to be asked to participate. It's always a fun challenge following the brief and working on something that’s over the top with no consideration for creating something commercial!” said Schubert.

Catch the complete full showcase live during the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Experience held at Greyville Racecourse at two glitzy fashion evenings on 14 and 16 July.

2010 Vodacom Durban July theme

"IT’S A BLOOMING GREAT DAY"

Plant a seed of good fortune,
In the garden of your mind.
Gather design, reap style,
Till it’s one of a kind.

Take a chance on wild,
Exotic if you must.
The flowers of our land,
Sub-tropical or dust.

A mixed bouquet,
In the early light of day.
Or maybe one brilliant bud,
Standing proud is the way.

Indigenous is ingenious,
A good bet to be seen.
Recycling’s one way,
Another is ‘think green’.

In a garden of colour,
One contest stands high.
A blooming great race,
The Vodacom Durban July.
